Last (planned) temp blog post ever.

I say that I’m lazy and tired, and that’s about half the truth. The other half is that I need to rest up for tomorrow. I’ll be in charge of ELL camp as well as digging through the library for space-related stories for Wednesday’s storytime.

If I did have my WordPress up, my first post would say something to the effect of

The current case of Requisite Female Confusion seems to have become Requisite Female Never Hear Back From Again, or so Ockham’s Razor tells me. I am probably more saddened than I will admit to anyone, myself included.

But I don’t. So this is here.

To do: install PHP and MySQL so I can then get WordPress running on here. Then, I’m not sure how I’ll migrate or if I’ll migrate all the content from past blogs onto there. jules*365 will be up for sure since I have everything saved as .html files for the blogalysis project (yes, it’s going). Do I do the same with x/dazing? Probably not. What about this one? Probably I’ll just cut/paste everything and modify dates, since I can do that on WP. Preferably, I’d like to yoink the MySQL DB, but I don’t have access to that. At that point, it’ll be time to play with WordPress and CSS and all sorts of loveliness.

There *is* webspace outside of blogs, even if Technorati reports an obscene rate in the increase of blogging. I’m toying w/ the idea of wikifying my non-blog space. At some point I’ll be sure to toy w/ MediaWiki to see what it can do.

more stuff: I’ve not made a decision on hosting (buy/diy) yet. Also, I just now realize that I’ve not worked on 365 analysis for a while.

And these two things have demonstrated to me that I don’t trust other people admining my webspace. If my blog or personal site is down, I want that to be my fault as much as possible.

That being said, here are my options.

1) Pay for webspace and do stuff myself. I’d have to learn some stuff, which is fine, since I’m never afraid to RTFM. (Some people refuse to, and while a well-written manual should (almost) never be complicated enough to scare people, an ability to wade through mucky manuals is key.) And I would have to pay for it. Hopefully AdSense would help me out there, but my readership is low, and I really have no interest in increasing it radically.

2) Be a webserver myself. I’d have to learn significantly more stuff, though. I’d have to dedicate one of my machines, though, and my choices are:

• a) my lappy Satchel, an iBook G4 1.2 GHz w/ 1.25 gigs of RAM, obviously running OS X, although I’ve flirted with putting Yellow Dog on it
• b) my old Box, an Athlon 1.2 GHz w/ 512 megs of RAM, running XP (while I’ve thought about dualbooting Linux, I doubt I’ll be rid of XP for a while since it’s still the premier personal computer gaming platform)

Clearly, my laptop is out of the question because it’s my laptop. However, I’d rather run Apache (what else would I run?) on a UNIX-like system, like OS X, instead of Windows. While this might be impetus to put a Linux distro on my Box, I’m not always going to boot into Linux. So if I were to use my Box, I’d be running Apache for Windows, and somehow I’d rather use Apache on a command-line interface I’m still learning (UNIX shell) than one I’ve been using since I was eight or so (command.com/cmd.exe).

Thoughts? (if you that got what the hell I was talking about)

I’m going to do it again because I’m really down.

My parents have cancelled the Arizona trip, and I’m fuming and dejected because I already cancelled my plans (see last post). Little to no chance of recovery.

A copy of The Pink Album will be mine! Just a copy, but still!

That makes me happy.

These make me less than happy.

I’m going to Arizona tomorrow, unfortunately. Eight to ten hours in the ‘rents’ Highlander. More than eight to ten hours w/ the ‘rents. Grah.

Because of the above, I’m missing the Rhythm of the Chain book release party.

And because of that, I won’t be seeing someone I seem to find rather delightful.

That culminates that crescendo of d’oh!s, but there’s more that would’ve been associated with tomorrow:

• And the OoA’s volunteering, so she would’ve been busy. I *would’ve* asked her if she was busy before/after, but I won’t get that chance. Damn!
